The best belts for Autumn/Winter 2020

Belts are the absolute key accessory I am constantly drawn to and I have quite a growing collection. I love a unique or statement belt and they are the easiest way to give an outfit a completely different look without breaking the bank.

It’s well worth investing in a leather hole punch tool. I have had mine for years, they are inexpensive but such an invaluable tool, I couldn’t be without mine. Year on year it constantly serves me well. This handy little device means you don’t need to place too much onus on the sizing, if there’s a belt you love you can easily size up and then customise it to you.

My three favourite belts in my current collection are the Gucci Marmont, the Ashley belt from Decorium and the Zara double loop buckle belt.

I generally like the hardware on my belts to be a matte or muted gold, it’s a personal preference however I always think they look a lot more chic and expensive in these tones.

Another belt trend currently circulating the fashion scene that has also caught my eye is the wide corset-style waist belts. When I was in my twenties I was obsessed with corset tops and would frequently wear them on nights out. They always provide such a flattering silhouette for both slim or curvy figures.

Below I have included some of my favourite belts with varying price points from Karen Millen, & Other Stories and Pretty Little Thing

These belts (when styled well) are chic, eye-catchingly beautiful, and gothically romantic in all the right ways. Nothing says Boss B* like a corset belt and anything that draws the waist in is a must-have. They look their best styled up with a stark white shirt to add that sophisticated, monochromatic contrast and to soften the look flirtily peeking through a chunky knit cardigan.

Belted wrap over cardigans

If you missed out on this trend it’s not too late to invest, especially with the weather taking a turn. The perfect transitional piece for this time of year that will hold strong for the forthcoming autumn/winter season too.

They give me a nostalgic flashback to the wrap over cardigans I wore to ballet classes when I was young and that subsequently my daughter’s wear to theirs during the colder months.

In winter they can be layered with thin roll-top knits teamed with black cigarette trousers or black skinny jeans and an ankle boot. In spring/autumn they look beautiful worn over lace bralettes and camis with light denim mom jeans and trainers.

The two bottom styles are my favourite, they are currently sold out but Zara often re-stocks it’s popular items. I recently fell in love with balloon sleeves, they have a very oversized decadent look to them which creates a more statement effect. This is not your everyday run of the mill cardi but a must-have wardrobe staple.
